Artist as Therapist: Embracing the Connection between Creativity and Wellness
What is Art Therapy?
"Art Therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. Art Therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art Therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensory-motor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change." -- AATA

About Me
Throughout my life, I have used art to process my experiences, which is what ultimately led me to become an art therapist: the field where mental health and wellness, and creativity intersect.

I have experience working with clients of all ages exploring themes life review, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, loneliness, trauma, and body image. I also have experience working in early childhood and with children on the ASD spectrum.

Exploring our lives in creative ways such as art-making or writing provides insights into our inner world. Therapy can be daunting, and art-making can be the vehicle that gets us started. Art therapy adds another coping skill to your toolkit, boosting self-esteem, distress tolerance, and reconnecting with your innate creativity.
